WTR news for the new year of 2017
For 2017 the members of the 2016 WTR board have agreed to stay on for another year. Board members at large are: Peter Strains, Steve Vanden Boogart, David Elliott, treasurer/secretary, Mike Clawson, vice president, and Tom Chase, president. If any members would like to be on the board, there are current board members willing to step down. Please contact WTR if there is interest in your part. Please feel free to contact any board members about any of your concerns.
All members can remain members for 2017 without any dues for this current year. If you do not wish to be a member, please contact WTR or one of the board members to remove your name from WTR’s roles and communication accounts. Any new enthusiast wishing to join WTR will need to submit an application and $10 to WTR’s Pay Pal account.
The reason for not having a 2017 dues for current members is WTR currently has about $2,100 in our accounts with any current expenses. Thus, the need for dues from current members for 2017 is not necessary for this year.
WTR will file a grant application to the MDNR for the 2018 Porterfield maintenance grant. The current grant holder that does the yearly MDNR maintenance at the Porterfield Lake Motorcycle Trail will not release this to WTR. For MDNR to release the grant to another group, the old grant holder must either be found deficient in performing the required work or agree to give it up to another club. WTR was the award-winning subcontractor that turned Porterfield from 22 miles to 38 miles of challenging single track during the years from 2007 to 2014 through their work with the MDNR. Because of this relationship with MDNR, WTR was encouraged to apply for the Porterfield grant directly which we have done now for 4 years. WTR’s members proved that their members care and protect single track motorcycle trail in Michigan. It is the club’s goal to again become the stewards of Porterfield.
The 2017 Middle of NoWhere is scheduled for the week-end of June 2,3,4 – 2017. This will be open to both motorcycles enjoying Porterfield and atvs enjoying the local routes and attractions. More news about this event will be forthcoming. Mark your calendars.
Two other rides will be scheduled. Please submit any ideas you might have for these events as to location and dates.
One of our members has offered his 120 acre wooded property near Crivitz for a week-end ride for WTR members. He and his family has developed a wonderful system of trails that are both challenging and long in length to keep most of us happy for the day and/or a week-end. More to follow on this event. Thank you for this opportunity in 2017! This is the best private property trails I have had the pleasure to ride.
WTR will continue to work on developing better communications for its members through the different venues.
WTR looks forward to another successful year in 2017!
